Matt Homrich-Knieling is an educator and organizer in Detroit. He taught at César Chávez Academy Middle School for four years. While at CCA, Matt, along with a group of students, formed an afterschool program called Student Action Club. The club was a youth-led space for students to learn and practice leadership and activism skills. Through this program, students led trainings for teachers, moderated a school assembly on environmental justice with Representative Rashida Tlaib, and more! Matt is also a founding member of MIStudentsDream, which is a collective of educators, students, and community members organizing around immigration and education justice. Currently, Matt is a community organizer with 482Forward and the Michigan Education Justice Coalition, focusing on bringing communities together across Michigan to win equitably funded, healing and healthy schools. Matt lives in southwest Detroit with his wife, Cait, his son, Ray, and his cat, Tonks.
