A native of the Detroit area, Mary is an educator and advocate who has held a variety of leadership positions as employee and volunteer. She has extensive experience in building and running alliances and coalitions, including during her time as a lobbyist for the UAW.   She also has taught in the social justice program of Marygrove College and currently teaches the Social Studies GED curriculum at the Mercy Education Project in Detroit. ​
